ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the early efficacy of two different ways of rehabilitation exercises in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. Method From January 2011 to January 2014,136 patients having undergone TKA were randomly divided into two groups. In group A , patients exercised under the guidance with doctor. In group B, patients exercised by using continuous passive movement (CPM) machine. Compared the data from the two groups including range of motion (ROM) of the knee joint, knee function score (KFS) and circumference of the knee joint, t test of independent sample was utilized in the research. Results All patientswere followed up in 4 weeks. The ROM and KFS of Group A was significantly better than Group B (P 0.05).Conclusion Group A and B are effective methods in TKA patients in early rehabilitation training. But training under the guidance of doctor has greater advantages than CPM.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect and safety of transcatheter thrombus-breaking combined with local infusion of reteplase (rPA) in treating severe pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). Methods During the period from June 2010 to June 2013 at authors’ hospital, transcatheter thrombus-breaking combined with local infusion of reteplase was carried out in 26 patients (17 males and 9 females) with severe pulmonary embolism. The changes of pulmonary circulation and the cardio - pulmonary hemodynamics after the treatment were analyzed. Results The preoperative mean pulmonary artery pressure, arterial blood oxygen partial pressure and the blood pressure were (63.78 ± 6.89) mmHg, (73.23 ± 11.51) mmHg and (87.35 ± 10.92) mmHg respectively, while the postoperative ones were (26.23 ± 10.27) mmHg, (93.48 ± 6.17) mmHg and(127.14 ± 13.15) mmHg respectively, and the differences between preoperative and postoperative ones were statistically significant (P<0.01). All the patients were followed up for 6 - 36 months. Significant stable clinical improvement was obtained in 25 patients, and recurrence was seen in one patient. Conclusion Transcatheter thrombus-breaking combined with local infusion of reteplase can quickly improve the pulmonary circulation and the clinical conditions for patients with severe pulmonary thromboembolism, and it has no obvious complications. This technique carries excellent value in maintaining the stability of hemodynamics.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the usefulness of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as a noninvasive method in recording the activities of the human brain as excited by low frequency current(LFC) stimulator. Methods The right common peroneal nerves of 6 healthy volunteers were stimulated with LFC (NMR-II stimulator). The activities of the brain were then recorded and evaluated during the scanning by the fMRI technique. Data obtained during the study were dealt with with the software SPM99. Results In both cerebral hemispheres, the area where the postcentral and superior temporal gyrus, inferior parietal lobule met were excited, and so were the operculum at both sides. Postcentral gyrus, superior parietal and paracentral lobule, and the precuneus in the left cerebral hemisphere, as well as the superior occipital gyrus and the superior parietal lobule in the right hemisphere, were involved as the excited areas. Conclusion fMRI is a useful tool for recording and evaluating the brain activities excited by LFC.
